My sister brought me some from Israel. Goat-milk yogurt cheese balls, these were packed in citrus-y olive oil so they could be transported without refrigeration. Delicious spread on flatbread. Yum!

Re: newest cheese discovery... lebneh!
Sun, July 30, 2006 - 9:12 AMI buy the Lebanese brand that comes in a tub like cream cheese. I was first introduced to it at a restaurant I dance at where they spread it on a plate, like hummos, and drizzle with olive oil, then eat with pita. I like to spread mine on cracked pepper water crackers and top with ajvar, a red pepper spread. It's like crack.
I like the Zergut brand of ajvar best so far. zergut.com/
Try it too... :) -

Sat, August 5, 2006 - 11:57 PMUlker from Turkey do a nice one also and whilst it isn't quite the same certain types (regional versions) of Kraft Philadelphia are also very similar. I like it mixed with freshly ground black pepper on a nice piece of wholewheat bread. -

Re: newest cheese discovery... lebneh!
Mon, December 4, 2006 - 5:19 PMYou can just double cheesecloth, throw in yogurt and balance it over a pot or bowl overnight and voila.
Seriously...I usually rubberband the cheesecloth and stick chopsticks into the rubberband and balance it that way. Nothing fancy and perfect.
If you can get zatar, which is an herb/sesame seed mixture, from a middle eastern market, putting that with olive oil on the lebneh is delicious. -
